Red Clay Dahlias — Spring Tuber Sale Policy

Please read carefully before purchasing.
By placing an order with Red Clay Dahlias, you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and agree to the policies outlined below.

Ordering & Checkout

Orders are confirmed only after checkout is completed and a confirmation number and email are received.

Items placed in a cart are not reserved.

Orders are final once placed and cannot be canceled, modified, or edited for any reason. All sales are final.

Failure to read or understand these policies does not exempt a customer from them.

Tuber Quality Guarantee & Assumption of Risk

All tubers are grown, stored, divided, and packed on our farm using best practices. During both harvesting flowers and dividing tubers, all tools are sanitized  between each and every plant to prevent the spread of disease and/or virus. Red Clay Dahlias also does not have a public U-Pick. 

Red Clay Dahlias is a certified nursery by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture. Plants and tubers are inspected by the state to ensure healthy stock.

We guarantee that tubers will arrive firm, viable, and capable of growth, with at least one visible or viable eye.

Customer Responsibility

Dahlias are a living agricultural product. By purchasing tubers, you acknowledge that:

- Growth and performance depend on conditions outside our control.

- Soil quality, planting depth, weather, pests, virus/disease, and storage all affect outcomes.

- No two growing environments are the same.

Red Clay Dahlias is NOT responsible for tuber loss or growth issues due to any of the above mentioned items. 

If you have questions, issues, or concerns while growing your dahlias, please feel free to reach out. We are more than happy to try to help troubleshoot any growing issues you may encounter!

Label Accuracy

We take great care to label tubers correctly; however, with over 300 varieties, human error is possible. In addition, please take into consideration that stressed plants commonly throw blooms that may not appear as expected.

If a tuber blooms incorrectly:

- You must email clear photos of the bloom.

- Once verified, a replacement tuber will be sent the following year if the variety is available.

- Refunds are not issued for labeling errors.

Resolution is limited to replacement only and does not include monetary reimbursement.

Tuber Appearance, Size & Preparation

Tuber size does not determine growth success. Small tubers grow just as well as large tubers.

Peeling or flaking skin is normal and does not affect viability.

Tubers may be cut or reduced in size to:

- Remove compromised tissue

- Check for rot

- Accommodate safe packaging and shipping

These practices do not affect the tuber’s ability to grow.

If small, ugly, peeling skin, or any of the above mentioned items are an issue for you as the buyer, please source your tubers from a different supplier. Red Clay Dahlias will not sell or send tubers that we are not confident will grow. We take great pride in providing quality tubers, though cosmetic defects are common when growing in dense red clay soil, and do not play a role in its ability to grow. 

Inspection Window

Tubers must be inspected immediately upon delivery.

Any issues related to tuber condition must be reported within 3 calendar days of delivery, with clear photos. All issues must be sent via email to: redclaydahlias@gmail.com.

Issues reported after this period are not eligible for review, refund, or replacement.

Social Media bashing will not be tolerated. If you have an issue, please be respectful and contact us directly prior to going to social media.

Please remove your tubers from the shipping/retail packaging immediately upon receiving. If you are unable to plant your tuber(s) immediately, please take the proper steps to store or overwinter your dahlia tuber(s) to ensure its health until you are able to plant.

Shipping & Carrier Responsibility

Tubers ship in spring once weather conditions are appropriate (expected to begin mid March through late April). 

All orders ship via UPS at a flat rate of $14.

We ship to the contiguous United States only.

It is your responsibility as the customer to provide us with the correct address at checkout. Red Clay Dahlias is not responsible for missing packages due to incorrect address information you have provided.

You will receive an additional email when your order(s) ship. This email will contain the tracking number for your shipment. Please allow approximately 24-48 hours for shipping details to become available after receiving this email.

Carrier Responsibility:

Once a package is scanned and accepted by UPS, responsibility transfers to the customer.

Red Clay Dahlias is not responsible for:

- Shipping delays

- Lost or misrouted packages

- Carrier handling damage

- Packages marked as delivered but left unattended

All shipping-related issues must be addressed directly with UPS, however we are more than happy to help assist you with filing your shipping claim.

Combined Shipping

FREE combined shipping for multiple orders! All orders must be placed by March 15th, 2026 to qualify for free combined shipping.

NO CODE NEEDED - Free shipping for additional orders will automatically be applied during the checkout process.

All combined orders must use the same email address and the same shipping address.

Orders that do not meet both requirements will not be combined.

No exceptions will be made for address adjustments, changes, or mismatched emails.

Local Pickup

FREE local pickup option! (Estimated mid-April)

Pickup location: Troy’s Greenhouse - 30 Cherry Lane, Burnsville, NC 28714

Customers selecting the local pickup option at check out, will receive an additional email this spring with date and times, instructions and deadlines for picking up your order(s).

Orders not picked up during the designated window and/or deadline date may be forfeited without refund.

Variety Limits & Availability

Some varieties may be limited per household to allow fair access.

Attempts to bypass limits may result in order cancellation.

Overwintering Reality

Overwintering dahlia tubers does not always go as planned, and losses can occur despite best practices.

If a variety becomes unavailable before shipping/pickup:

- You will be notified by email as soon as the issue is known.

- A full refund will be issued, or

- A substitution may be offered if agreed upon via email.

Substitutions will never be made without customer approval.

Refunds, Replacements & Chargebacks

Approved refunds or replacements are limited to issues reported within the stated inspection window.

Chargebacks filed for issues covered by this policy may result in:

- Submission of this policy and documentation to the payment processor.

- Permanent restriction from future sales.

Conduct & Communication

Respectful communication is required.

Abusive, threatening, or harassing behavior may result in order cancellation without refund and refusal of future service.

Final Acknowledgment

By completing a purchase with Red Clay Dahlias, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to this policy and accept the inherent risks of purchasing live plant material.
